Plainva 0.8.3: keep your work in view

Plainva 0.8.3 release graphic: Keep your work in view. Keep conflict edits together, read with less clutter on mobile, and bring more content across. Desktop, Android and iOS TestFlight.

Plainva 0.8.3 brings together the changes since 0.8.2 for desktop and mobile. The focus is the work around your notes: comparing a conflict, returning to a pinboard, connecting an account, and bringing in material from another app.

Keep conflict edits together

When you continue editing a conflict copy, further saves stay in that same copy during the editing session. The comparison view gives you the surrounding text so that you can review both versions and resolve the conflict deliberately. This improves the recovery workflow; it does not claim to prevent every possible sync conflict.

Task filters now stay with each vault as you move between views. Account setup and signing in again have clearer states, while account and task conflict handling has been improved across both shells. Existing account identities and vault contents are retained.

Read, then carry on

On mobile, the reading controls hide as you scroll down by default. You can change this in Settings with “Automatically hide controls while reading.” Desktop retains its explicit focus mode. Images can open in a larger view with zoom, and iOS list editing has received fixes for unstable indentation and collapsed-list interaction.

Selection controls stay within the viewport. Folder bookmarks and section embeds make it easier to return to a place or include the relevant part of another note. A section embed shows that section rather than the whole source note.

Return to a useful overview

Pinboards reuse unchanged cached content when you return, load newly visible cards as needed, and handle search and index states more consistently. Database controls distinguish whole-note tags from a Tags property. Metadata filters, property suggestions, summaries, relations and calculated values have also received improvements.

New vaults include an expanded tour with examples to explore. This is a starting point for newly created vaults: the update does not add tour files to an existing vault or replace your own templates.

Bring material into your vault

Joplin imports preserve more source structure. Obsidian vaults still open directly, with better support for their task metadata. Mobile sharing keeps received content in an inbox until you can place it in the right vault. The iOS share extension also has corrected bundle metadata for signed distribution.

For Google Drive, the destination folder is chosen explicitly. Android WebDAV connections can use user-installed certificate authorities. Mail synchronization has more careful handling of partial results and bulk operations, alongside the account setup improvements.

Make the workspace your own

“My theme” now stores a light and a dark design together; system mode uses the saved pair. A suggested counterpart is only adopted when you choose it. An optional personal sync can carry that design through a selected vault.

Search lists individual matches with their context and lets you return to the same position. Date navigation can open an existing daily note or create the missing one. Desktop window handoff keeps the draft until the receiving window confirms it. Publication feedback separates comments, suggestions and the owner’s decision in the original vault, with more robust moderation.

Database export has a measured set of supported relation rollups: count, filled/empty and checked/unchecked. Other aggregates can be exported as CSV values. A .base export does not promise to reproduce every filter or layout of another application.

More careful input handling

This release strengthens HTML conversion, mail commands and headers, image handling, graph state and newly generated identifiers. Revised text scanning handles long or malformed note and mail content more efficiently. Imports report HTML that exceeds the supported nesting depth instead of saving a shortened result; valid neighboring files can still be imported.

These changes were checked with ordinary content as well as deliberately malformed inputs. They are specific improvements, not a promise that software can never fail or a substitute for an independent security review. Encrypted workspaces and the native device-calendar provider remain experimental.

Update together

Plainva 0.8.3 is available for desktop, Android and iOS TestFlight. On iOS, the native marketing version remains 1.0; the TestFlight build number identifies the new delivery. Update each device that works with the same vault to receive the shared improvements throughout.

iOS TestFlight: 1.0 (112).
